The resin produced my the Mastic tree, grown in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Egypt. The pale yellow liquid is sun-dried into hard, brittle drops, initially bitter in flavour, but piney and cedary when chewed. It is used in gum, ice-cream and liqueurs.
