The large fruit of the tropical plant "Ananas comosus" which is the result of the coalescence of the fruits of a hundred or more flowers. It is shaped like a large pine cone, with a crown of green leaves. Its compartmentalised skin is rough and a yellow-brown colour, while its yellow flesh is juicy with a sweet-sour flavour. It can be bought fresh, canned or juiced, and is habitually used in desserts, salads, with pork or in cocktails.
