Leek

A vegetable in the onion and garlic family, chopped and eaten raw, boiled or fried. The edible 'stalk' consists of a bundle of green leaf sheaths stemming from a small, white, straight, onion-like base. It is firm and crunchy, with a mild onion-like flavour.
